It’s said on virtually every conference call or Zoom meeting. “I’d much prefer to be able to meet you all face to face.” For participants in this week’s Responsible Care® & Sustainability Conference, American Chemistry Council CEO Chris Jahn’s opening remarks rang especially true.
The decision to move the chemical industry’s annual environmental, health and sustainability conference to a virtual format was clear – the dedication of the ACC members and Responsible Care Partners who are participating in this week’s event even clearer. Our industry is working, sometimes around the clock, to provide personal protective gear to essential employees in critical needs areas, repurposing production lines to develop items like hand sanitizers and face shields, and contributing food, gas and other supplies to the communities that need them the most.
But even during these challenging times, we are looking to the future. Participants in the virtual Responsible Care & Sustainability Conference are learning from veteran emergency management experts like former FEMA administrator Brock Long on how to continuously enhance our facility safety, emergency preparedness and response. They are tackling tough issues, including developing innovative products and processes to battle COVID-19 and protect essential workers, collaborating with nonprofit participants to create broad-based plans for more Americans to return to work and addressing supply chain challenges during an incident.
It’s not too late to join us. Tuesday’s keynote speaker, Mark Vergnano, President & CEO of Chemours, will address ACC’s long-term sustainability strategy to help organizations meet sustainability goals in keys areas, including climate, air, water, product safety and circularity. On Wednesday, we’ll hear from keynote speaker Michael J. Graff, Chairman & CEO of American Air Liquide Holdings, Inc., on strategic enhancements to Responsible Care, our industry’s commitment to driving continuous improvement for more than 30 years.
The men and women of the chemistry industry are focused on the needs of today, while planning for tomorrow. They understand the chemical industry’s role in solving the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges. They know and live this year’s Responsible Care & Sustainability Conference theme, “Our Hands Hold the Future.”
Join us, and them, as we spend time this week learning from our peers and partners how to drive continuous improvement. We hope to see you there.
