New video: BASF illustrates chemistry behind lithium-ion battery, future electric car

Chemistry goes into the lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries we depend on every day to power our automobiles, military equipment, laptops, mobile phones, MP3 players and more.

But have you ever wondered how the battery technology works exactly? In less than three minutes, BASF’s new animated video illustrates the chemistry behind the battery and hints at what may be in store for the plug-in car of tomorrow.

As a side note, BASF announced last summer its plans to invest between $144 million and $1.43 billion over the next five years in the research, development and production of advanced battery technologies.

You can learn more about BASF’s battery portfolio here.
